At MMS, our mission is clear: to preserve, protect, and restore the rich biodiversity thriving beneath the waves. Covering vast stretches of pristine coastline and encompassing a diverse range of marine habitats, this MPA serves as a haven for countless marine species, including vibrant coral reefs, elusive sea turtles, magnificent whales, and an array of colorful fish species.
By leveraging scientific research, sustainable management practices, and community engagement, the Marine Protected Area at Mulala, Nacala strives to strike a harmonious balance between human activities and the delicate marine ecosystem. Amanda Louw
Co-Founder and
Head of Operations
Amanda Louw, originally from Cape Town, South Africa, is the face of this project. She is passionate about protecting marine life and has been dedicated to this project since its conception. Amanda actively engages with local authorities, working tirelessly to ensure that the regulations of our Marine Protected Area are rigorously upheld by the fishing community.
Johannes Louw
Co-Founder and
Sustainability Director
Johannes, a certified scuba instructor and devoted ocean enthusiast, stands as a dedicated advocate for environmental conservancy and the preservation of Mozambique's native marine life. Operating diligently behind the scenes, Johannes takes on the crucial responsibility of regulating the MPA and tracking its development.
Maud Moison
Sanctuary Co-Manager
Maud is a marine biologist, diver, and ocean explorer with more than 20 years of experience working across Europe, Asia, North America, French Polynesia, the Southern Ocean, and Mozambique. Holding a PhD in Biological Oceanography, she has worked as a researcher, fisheries officer, NGO founder, and conservation consultant. She is passionate about turning science into action to protect marine ecosystems and support healthier oceans and resilient coastal communities.
Sylvain Lenoir
Sanctuary Co-Manager
Sylvain is a marine biologist with a PhD and a passion for restoring and protecting marine ecosystems. His work has taken him from planting corals and caring for sea turtles in French Polynesia to studying exploited fish populations in the Southern Ocean. In Mozambique, he applies his scientific expertise and hands-on conservation experience to help rebuild marine resources in ways that benefit both nature and local communities for generations to come.
